Pensacola's Joe Caveney Named Easton Player of the Week

January 28, 2014 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (January 28, 2014) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Joe Caveney of the Pensacola Ice Flyers is the Easton Player of the Week for January 20-26.

Caveney scored five goals, recording his first four-goal game as a professional, in leading the Ice Flyers to a pair of wins and a tie for first place in the standings.

On Friday, the Fitchburg, MA native scored on a penalty shot in Pensacola's four-goal first period as the Ice Flyers downed the Mississippi Surge, 6-1. Following a weather-related postponement on Saturday, Caveney scored Pensacola's first four goals in an 8-4 win over the Mississippi RiverKIngs on Sunday.

Despite playing only 21 games with Pensacola due to a six-week call-up to the ECHL, Caveney ranks third (tied) in the SPHL in goals (18) and is tied for sixth with 34 points. He also earned Player of the Month honors for October/November when he scored 12 goals, including two game-winners, and added 15 assists in 16 games.
