Southaven, Miss. --The Louisiana IceGators once again used steady special teams play pull off a victory.

A penalty shot goal from Chris Wilson and a power play score from Jeff Grant were enough to push the IceGators to a 2-1 win over the Mississippi RiverKings.

Louisiana also stopped five of the RiverKings power play opportunities.

The IceGators return to the ice Thursday night when they host the Fayetteville FireAntz in the Cajundome. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

"I have to give the boys a lot of credit and praise for the big road win," said IceGators head coach Kevin Kaminski. "The guys were awake and prepared for the morning game and came out flying. They established the forecheck early and made things happen. [Goalie Keifer] Smiley gave us a good game and controlled his rebounds when we had breakdowns.

The IceGators offense was potent in the first period.

Wilson drew a penalty shot 83 seconds into the game after being hauled down to ice while breaking away and making a move towards the net.

"That was a sick move!" Kaminski said of Wilson's score.

Grant tacked on his goal 12 minutes later to give Louisiana a 2-0 lead. Shawn McNeil and Jeremy Boyer assisted on the play.

"Our power play unit went to work on that play," Kaminski said. "Grant had a great screen and got the tip for the goal. The guys did a great job in executing their systems"

The RiverKings' lone goal came with 23 seconds remaining in the second period. Matt Whitehead scored a power play goal off assists from Mike Grace and Matt Harrington.

Kaminski says his team's recent string of victories has not only put them one point out of first place in the SPHL standings, but it has also helped the team find its mojo.

"We're playing with confidence and with momentum," Kaminski said. "But we can't be satisfied. We have to keep demanding ourselves to get sharper and better. We have to demand taking pride in winning, especially with a three-game home stand in front of us."
