Niagara IceDogs News Release
The IceDogs were looking to hit the ice flying against the Mississauga Steelheads after a tough loss last night. With this being the third game in the season series, the IceDogs were looking to sway the seasons series in their favour after winning their first outing and losing a close second match.
One short-handed goal was the difference in the opening frame, as the Mississauga Steelheads found themselves up 1-0 heading into the first intermission. Tynan kept the game tied making a big save on that same penalty kill a minute later. The period had the 'Dogs leading in the faceoff dot winning 11 out of 19.
Phil Tomasino lit a spark for the IceDogs as he put forth an individual effort that led to a shot on net. Following that, the IceDogs took off and tied the game at one off a one-timer courtesy of Kyen Sopa. Captain Akil Tomas picked up the first assist and winger Oliver Castleman was credited with the secondary assist. The 'Dogs continued to put the Steelheads on their heels by cycling the puck down low and displaying their talent through creative offensive plays. When the puck made its way back into the IceDogs end, Mississauga regained their lead with 1:27 remaining in the second frame.
Tynan started the 3rd period off strong making 3 big saves in the first 35 seconds. The Steelheads were able to extend their lead to 3-1 mid-way through the period, but Lucas Theriault closed the gap back to one with his third goal of the season. The IceDogs pulled their goalie as time ran down to gain an extra attacker, but the Steelheads collected an empty net goal to win the game 4-2.
Your IceDogs are on the road for four straight games before returning to the Meridian center on Saturday, November 16th, verse the Windsor Spitfires. The OHL and Special Olympics Ontario are hosting a month long online 50-50 draw, ending on November 30th. Click here to purchase.
