Niagara IceDogs News Release
Freddie Hamilton took home a souvenir puck as he netted his first career OHL hat-trick to lead the Niagara IceDogs to a 5-3 victory over the Erie Otters in front of 2,801 fans at the Gatorade Garden City Complex Thursday night. The win gives the IceDogs a perfect 4-0 home record in 2010.
Erie took the first lead of the game at the 11:14 mark of the first, as Tyler Hostetter slapped one past Visentin from the point.
The IceDogs answered back shortly after when Dylan MacEachern backhanded one off the pad of Otters goaltender, Ramis Sadikov, to tie the game 1-1.
The Otters would regain the lead just one minute later on a fluky shot by Derek Holden that squeaked past Visentin on his short side, giving Erie the 2-1 advantage going into the first intermission.
Alex Friesen picked things up for the IceDogs in the second period as he snapped one in on the power play, notching his 16th goal of the season, with help from Shaw and Fritsch.
The two teams would exchange quick goals yet again, as Freddie Hamilton scored for the Dogs at the 10:45 mark, while Andrew Yogan replied with a goal for Erie at the 10:59 mark, giving the game a 3-3 score.
Johnson Andrews tried to stir things up by going toe-to-toe with Otters enforcer Brett Appio off a defensive end draw. The two exchanged a few shots before Andrews finished it off with a couple hard rights and a takedown to get the decision.
Niagara took momentum from Johnson's fight, and Freddie Hamilton notched his 2nd of the game (18th of the season) from Moes and Agozzino, to give the IceDogs a 4-3 lead after forty minutes of play.
Freddie Hamilton kept up his stellar play in the third as he netted his hat-trick goal at the 2:44 mark to give the IceDogs a comfortable 5-3 lead. Hamilton's tenacity has been evident as of late, as he has recorded 5 goals and 2 assists in the past three games.
The two teams would exchange a series of penalties throughout the remainder of the third period, but the score would stay at 5-3 in favour of the Niagara IceDogs.
The IceDogs will take a turn being the visiting team tomorrow (January 29) at 7:00 p.m., as they travel to Erie to face the Otters in the final game of the home-and-home match-up. The Dogs will then travel back to Niagara as they prepare to host the Kingston Frontenacs at Gatorade Garden City Complex on Sunday, January 31, with the puck drop set for 2:00 p.m.
Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location.
