Otters Beaten By Hamilton's Hat Trick In Niagara, 5-3

The Erie Otters (21-21-5-2) dropped their fifth game in a row as Freddie Hamilton scored a hat trick to lead the Niagara IceDogs to a 5-3 win in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday night in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Tyler Hostetter put the Otters on the board 11:14 into the game as he took a pass from David Broll at the right point and floated a shot over the glove hand of IceDogs goaltender Mark Visentin to pick up his third goal of the season.

The IceDogs tied the game 2:36 later on a tally by Dylan McEachern, though the Otters quickly regained the lead 58 seconds afterward as Derek Holden fired a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that squeaked through a screen and between the legs of Visentin for his eighth goal of the season at 14:48.

In the second period, the IceDogs tied the game on power play goal by Alex Friesen and took the lead on Hamilton's first goal of the night at 10:45. Andrew Yogan tied the game at three with a deke in front of Visentin and placing the shot under his left pad at 10:59.

Niagara took a lead into the second intermission thanks to Hamilton's second goal of the game, after he directed the puck into an empty net following a diving save by Ramis Sadikov on Josh Moes at 18:19.

Hamilton completed the hat trick with a one-timer from the slot that went over the right shoulder of Sadikov at 2:44, giving the IceDogs insurance and sealing the win.

Yogan led the Otters with a goal and an assist, while Sadikov made 36 saves in taking the loss.

The Otters return for back-to-back games at Tullio Arena starting Friday night with a rematch against the IceDogs at 7:00 p.m. The first 2,500 fans receive a coupon for a free Fresco Taco, courtesy of Taco Bell.
