Niagara IceDogs News Release
The IceDogs are headed back home following a win in Windsor!
The game got off to a slower start for the 'Dogs this afternoon. Windsor capitalized on a short handed opportunity to take a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.
The second period was a much more active period for the IceDogs, looking like they figured out how their game plan needed to be executed against the Spitfires. On a delayed penalty call, the IceDogs outworked Windsor, who had been trapped in their own zone, and finally got a puck past former IceDog Colton Incze. Bradey Johnson scored his 9th of the season, banking the puck off the post and in! Jack Studnicka and Johnny Schaefer were credited with the assists on Johnson's equalizer. With under two minutes Jason Robertson snuck the puck high glove side on the netminder to get the IceDogs the 1-goal lead heading into the third period! Robertson's goal was initially challenged for off-side, but the review was inconclusive and deemed to be a good goal!
Windsor tied the game at 2 midway through the third period, but it was Oliver Castleman who came up clutch for the IceDogs! Castleman intercepted a pass from a Spitfire, and poked it into the neutral zone. He beat the Windsor defenders to the puck, going into the offensive on a breakaway and scored! Castleman's 13th of the season was unassisted but re-gained Niagara's lead. Philip Tomasino got in on the fun with an empty net goal of his own! Windsor added another goal, but it wasn't enough to force extra time.
With this afternoon's 4-3 win, the IceDogs have put together two complete winning weekends, capturing 12 out of 12 points!
The 'Dogs come back to town on Thursday, January 31st! Their game on the last day of the month is against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
