December 4, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs visited Sarnia to take on the Sting for a Sunday matinee at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
The Sting opened the scoring late in the first period to make it a 1-0 game heading into the second.
With 36 seconds remaining in the second period, the Sting put a rebound past Stephen Dhillon to make it 2-0. Responding just 14 seconds later was Akil Thomas with his 9th goal of the season from Kyle Langdon and Justin MacPherson to pull the IceDogs within 1. After 2 periods, the Sting held on to a 2-1 lead.
Despite the IceDogs continuing to play high-tempo hockey, the Sting extended their lead at 3-1 early in the third. Oliver Castleman tightened the gap to 3-2 with a gritty rebound goal in front of the net at 11:47 on assists from Langdon and Thomas. Three minutes later, Thomas buried his second of the night to tie the game at 3. This game would need extra time to decide the winner.
Ultimately, Sarnia won this game in a shootout.
The IceDogs return home on December 8th as they take on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online HERE or in person at the following locations:
