OTTAWA - A good first period wasn't enough for the Ottawa 67's Sunday afternoon. They fell 6-3 to the visiting Mississauga Steelheads.
Ottawa outshot Mississauga 15-13 in the first period and scored the first goal of the game, but couldn't hold on.
"We have to realize what transpired and look ourselves in the mirror on the way to the locker room," said associate coach Mike Eastwood after the game.
"There are no easy games in this league."
Eastwood says despite the Steelheads sitting in ninth in the east, they're a tough team to beat with a lot of skill.
For the second straight day, it was the 67's who struck first. Artur Tyanulin took a breakaway pass and deposited his 12th goal of the season on a shifty deke to the backhand 10:18 into the first period.
After the Steelheads tied the game, Drake Rymsha stayed hot with his third marker in under two games before the first period ended. He scored a rebound goal at 19:38 to make the score 2-1 Ottawa.
Mississauga would tie the game early in the second. Nathan Bastian deflected a pass passed Ottawa starter Olivier Lafreniere to give the Steelheads their second goal of the game on his ninth of the year.
Just three minutes later at 9:21, Nicolas Hague would take the lead for Mississauga. He took a feed from Vili Saarijarvi and sent a wrist shot off the glove of Lafrieniere and in.
Mississauga added two more goals in the third for a 6-3 final.
Ottawa now hits the road for a Thursday tango in Peterborough against the Petes, before returning home December 10 for a matinee teddy bear toss game against the Oshawa Generals.
