Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs fell to the London Knights by a score of 5-2 in London on Friday night.
The first period saw the IceDogs fall behind as London would find the scoreboard first and ultimately score the only two goals if the period as the IceDogs headed into the first intermission down 2-0. Shots after 20 minutes favoured London 14-10.
The second period would see the teams exchange chances throughout the period, but London starter Jake Patterson and IceDogs starter Chris Festarini would both be up to the task, keeping the score at 2-0 for much of the period. The period would not remain scoreless however, as London would strike on the powerplay with 5:32 left in the second to make it 3-0. The IceDogs would not let up though as Brett Ritchie would stay hot, putting one home with nine seconds remaining in the second to make it 3-1 after two. Shots after two continued to favour London 25-23.
The IceDogs would get off to a tough start to the third giving up an early goal to stretch the deficit to 4-1. The IceDogs would once again continue to battle however and Ritchie would answer right back for the IceDogs to make it a 4-2 game. The IceDogs would keep the pressure up on Patterson and Festarini would make a big stop on a penalty shot to keep it a 4-2 game. Despite some continued pressure late, that would be close as the IceDogs would get as London would add an empty netter to make it a 5-2 final. Final shots favoured the IceDogs 36-35.
The IceDogs are now finished for the weekend and will return to action next Thursday night when they host the visiting Erie Otters at 7pm at the Gatorade Garden City Complex. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
