Niagara IceDogs News Release
Ex-Owen Sound Attack forward Josh Moes led the IceDogs against his former team in a hard-fought loss to Owen Sound Wednesday night.
Owen Sound's goaltender kept them in it in the first as IceDogs forwards Dylan MacEachern and Johnson Andrews were awarded a couple scoring chances early on. Niagara kept the pressure on and led the Attack in shots 8-3 midway through the period. The game would remain scoreless going into the first intermission.
Mark Visentin had the night off as rookie goaltender John Chartrand played in his first OHL game for the IceDogs, and was solid in net in the first period.
The Second period was scoreless until Josh Moes tallied a power play marker to give IceDogs a 1-0 lead at the 11:48 mark, with helpers coming from Mike Schwindt and Freddie Hamilton. Freddie's counterpart, Dougie Hamilton, was not dressed tonight as he is away representing team Ontario in the Under-17 Championship.
Owen Sound tied the game up late in the second on the power play as Steven Shipley crashed the IceDogs net and slipped a greasy goal past Chartrand to give the game a 1-1 score after 40 minutes of play.
The IceDogs were rewarded a power play opportunity a few minutes into the third and both Andrew Agozzino and Matt Petgrave provided some quality scoring chances, but Attack goalie came up with a few big saves to keep his team in it.
Owen Sound would score a go-ahead goal at 12:07 of the third, and capped it off with an empty net goal late in the period to give the Attack a 3-1 win.
Niagara's goaltender John Chartrand was solid between the pipes and would receive the game's second star, proving his ability to carry the IceDogs through 60 minutes of play.
The IceDogs next game will take place tomorrow (Thursday, December 31), as they play host to the Erie Otters in their annual New Years Eve game, with a special 6:00 p.m. puck drop.
Following the game, young fans will have the opportunity to skate with the IceDogs, so don't forget to bring your skates! The Canada vs. U.S.A. World Junior game will also be shown on the big screens once the IceDogs game commences, and all fans are invited to stay in their seats for the game.
Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are available for purchase at any IceDogs ticketing location.
