October 28, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Barrie Colts came to town tonight for a rematch of the Eastern Conference Final. Both teams look drastically different from last season, but both are very similar. Both teams are being led by a surge of younger players, which was sure to make tonight's affair an exciting one.
The Colts jumped out to take an early 2-0 lead. Stephen Dhillon maintained his calming presence in net to help the IceDogs settle into their game plan. The 'Dogs broke the goose egg in the second half of the period on the powerplay courtesy of a goal from Chris Paquette, assisted by Ryan Mantha and Graham Knott. Paquette scored his team leading 8^th goal of the season. The Colts held onto a 2-1 lead heading into the 2^nd.
The second got off to a more back and forth style of play, as opposed to the first. The IceDogs were able to generate some decent chances but were unable to slide one past the Barrie goalie. Both goalies stood on their heads to keep the score at 2-1, but with less than 4 to go in the period, Oliver Castleman scored to even the score! Castleman's goal was assisted by Austin Clapham. With 13 seconds left in the second, captain Ryan Mantha collected his second point of the game with a goal to take the lead! Mantha's goal was assisted by Johnny Corneil and Chris Paquette. Going into the 3^rd period, the IceDogs led the Barrie Colts by a score of 3-2.
Early in the 3^rd, Barrie tied up the game at 3. Following the Barrie goal, Stephen Dhillon make some spectacular saves to keep the game tied while his team in front of him weathered a few storms. Graham Knott scored the equalizer in the last half of the 3^rd to even the score at 4! His goal was assisted by Kyle Langdon. The rest of the 3^rd period was a high spirited, close game, but 60 minutes wouldn't be enough to solve this one!
To start overtime, the IceDogs were on the powerplay. Graham Knott had several great chances, but just couldn't solve the Barrie goalie. With a minute and a half remaining in overtime, Dhillon made a huge glove save to keep the game alive. Overtime wasn't enough, this game headed to a shootout. Barrie would eventually take this one 5-4 in a shootout
