Kingston, Ont. - The Flint Firebirds dropped a 3-0 decision to the Kingston Frontenacs before more than 3,300 fans at the Rogers K-Rock Centre Friday night.
The Frontenacs struck first as rookie Linus Nyman scored his sixth goal of the season on the power-play. Eemeli Rasanen gathered a pass on the blue-line and fed the puck to Stephen Desrocher (Toronto Maple Leafs) at the left circle in the Firebirds' zone. Desrocher skated in and dished a pass to Nyman at the right circle, who promptly fired a wrist-shot top-shelf, past Flint's Connor Hicks to earn Kingston a 1-0 lead with 8:23 remaining in the first frame.
Kingston added a second goal just as time expired in the first period when Liam Murray scored his first goal of the season after he ripped a slap-shot from the left-point. Murray found the back of the net with .2 seconds remaining in the first period to make the score 2-0. The Firebirds trailed by two goals after 20 minutes of play, but were outshooting the Frontenacs 8-3.
Desrocher put Kingston up by three with his third goal of the season on the power-play after he fired a rebound into the net 3:27 into the second period. Warren Foegele (Carolina Hurricanes) took a shot from the right-point that hit a skate in slot and bounced to an open Desrocher on the left-side of the net who shot the puck past Connor Hicks to earn the Frontenacs a 3-0 lead. Despite Hicks not having a chance on the save after the deflection, Kingston scored three-goals on four shots.
Flint's Fedor Gordeev almost netted his second goal in a Firebirds' uniform as time expired in the the third period but after a lengthy review, the goal was disallowed.
Flint outshot the Frontenacs 22-19. Kingston was two-for-four on the power-play, while the Firebirds were scoreless on three attempts. Hicks made 16 saves on 19 shots.
