Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs lost a tough 3-1 decision to the visiting Mississauga Steelheads at the Jack on Thursday night.

It would be the visitors who would open the scoring, picking up a powerplay goal 4:09 in as Mississauga would take a 1-0 lead. Shots after the first were 11-7 IceDogs.

The second period would see each side looking for the important next goal and Mississauga would have a huge opportunity to get that goal in the final five minutes of the frame when the IceDogs would face a 5-on-3 penalty kill for 1:23. The IceDogs would battle and kill of both penalties, gaining momentum and putting some serious pressure on Mississauga again late in the second, but the score would remain 1-0 headed to the third. Shots after 40 minutes favoured the IceDogs 21-20.

The IceDogs would carry the momentum of their strong finish to the second into the early part of the third and would finally be rewarded only 47 seconds into the period when Jordan Maletta would bang one home in front to tie things up at 1-1. They would keep the pressure going, but unfortunately for the IceDogs faithful it would be Mississauga that would score next, scoring at the 5:24 mark of the period to retake the lead at 2-1. The IceDogs would appear to tie things up once again less than a minute later, but the goal would be waved off.
