Wolves Edged in Shootout
February 27, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves were at home Wednesday evening to take on their Northern Rivals, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Despite a solid effort, they would lose their seventh shootout of the season as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Hounds.
Playing in just his fourth game of the season, BRODY SILK got the Wolves on the board first just over 13 minutes into the opening frame on a beautiful set-up from MATT SCHMALZ. The Hounds tied things up before the period closed out on a goal by PATRICK WATLING. Shots on goal after the first were 12-11 in favour of the Hounds.
Both Wolves goaltender, FRANKY PALAZZESE and Hounds goaltender MATT MURRAY stood tall between the pipes and shut the door for the remainder of the 60 minutes. With nothing being solved in regulation or overtime, the two teams headed to a shootout.
The Wolves were unsuccessful in the shootout as neither NICK BAPTISTE nor TREVOR CARRICK could beat MURRY, while both JARED MCCANN and CHARLEY GRAASKAMP were successful for the Hounds. Final shots on goal were 46 to 39 in favour of the Wolves.
The Wolves will continue their busy home stand on Friday night when the Guelph Storm make their one and only appearance in the Nickel City this season. Game time is 7:30pm. Tickets are still available at the Sudbury Arena ticket office, by calling 705-671-3000 or online at www.greatersudbury.ca.
