Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs fell to the Owen Sound Attack Thursday night in a high scoring contest by a score of 7-4.
The IceDogs were back at the Meridian Centre after a three week long road trip that saw them get points in every game, and were looking to do some damage, wearing their customized pink jerseys for the annual Pink in the Rink game.
The IceDogs came out strong in their first matchup against Owen Sound of the season. The first period saw much of the same as last year; lots of goals. The Dogs got out to the early lead when Anthony DiFruscia tipped home a point shot to give the team the early 1-0 advantage. The Attack would answer with two quick ones to make it 2-1 before Jordan Maletta tied the game up at twos, capitalizing on a nifty feed from Josh Ho-Sang. Owen Sound would answer right back however to make it 3-2 going into the first intermission. Shots on goal favoured the Attack in the period, 12-7.
The second period looked like it may be a bit different as no teams found the scoresheet in the first half of the frame. The goals would start pouring in after that though with the Attack starting things off to go up by two. After going down 4-2, Jordan Maletta tipped in his second of the night to bring the Dogs back within one. The Dogs went down 5-3, but stayed resilient and kept battling. Graham Knott's quick snapshot on a feed from DiFruscia got the home team another power play goal. The shots on goal in the period were 13-11 in Owen Sound's favour.
The third period saw the Dogs generate some quality chances, but fall just short of the comeback. Owen Sound scored an early goal to take the 6-4 lead and then potted an empty netter in the final minute of the game to make it a 7-4 final. The shots on goal in the third period were 16-10 for the Attack.
Jordan Maletta was named the game's second star after scoring two of the IceDog's goals on the night, furthering the gap as the team's leading scorer with his 25th and 26th of the year.
The IceDogs will be back at home on Sunday, January 31st to play host to the Hamilton Bulldogs in a 4:00 PM evening contest. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
