Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs would use four unanswered third period goals to defeat the visiting Brampton Battalion 5-2 in front of a sell-out crowd of 3,145 during their Pink in the Rink game Saturday night.
The first period saw the the IceDogs strike first as Steven Shipley found the net 4:05 in to give the home side a 1-0 lead. Both goaltenders would be solid throughout the rest of the period, keeping it at 1-0 after twenty minutes of play. Shots in the period were 13-13.
Brampton would get themselves on the board in the second, striking twice in less than two and a half minutes for the only two goals of the period, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead after two. Shots after two periods were 21-18 in favour of Brampton.
The third period would see the IceDogs break out, as Alex Friesen and Brett Ritchie would turn a 2-1 Brampton lead into a 3-2 Niagara lead with a pair of powerplay markers only 20 seconds apart. David Pacan would keep the IceDogs rolling, making it 4-2 just over a minute later to chase Brampton starter Matej Machovsky. Freddie Hamilton would then add the IceDogs fourth powerplay marker of the night to make it a 5-2 final. Final shots were 33-31 for Brampton.
With the win, Visentin moves to a perfect 9-0 in 2012 and has not suffered a regulation loss since November 20th, putting together a 14-0-0-1 record during that span. The IceDogs powerplay also showed why it is the top unit in the league, going 4 for 8 on the night.
The IceDogs are now four points up on Brampton for the top spot in the Central Division and only two points back of the Ottawa 67's for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
The IceDogs are off until Thursday (February 9th) when they will look to continue their winning ways against the visiting Mississauga St. Michael's Majors. Game time is 7pm at the Gatorade Garden City Complex and great seats are still available.
