Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs picked up a solid 5-2 road victory over the Erie Otters on Wednesday night!
Brett Ritchie would continue his fantastic play, opening the scoring for the IceDogs 6:53 in to extend his goal scoring streak to six games and give the IceDogs a 1-0 lead. The IceDogs would then extend the lead to 2-0 less than two minutes later as Carter Verhaeghe put one past Erie starter Oscar Dansk. That would prove to be it for scoring in the frame as the IceDogs headed into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead. Shots after one favoured the IceDogs 9-6.
The second period would see the IceDogs lead cut to one early as Erie would strike only 39 seconds in to make it 2-1. Steven Shipley would answer back for the IceDogs to restore the lead to two at 3-1 at the 8:48 mark of the second. Erie would continue to battle however, answering back just under five minutes later to make it 3-2 after 40 minutes. Shots after two favoured the visitors 19-15.
After the quick goal to open the second period, the third period would see an even quicker goal to open the frame, but this time it would be the IceDogs finding the back of the net as Mitchell Theoret scored to make it 4-2 Niagara only 33 seconds in. The IceDogs would not look back from there shutting down Erie from there before Ryan Strome would add an empty net goal with five seconds to make it a 5-2 Niagara victory! Final shots were 32-22 for the IceDogs.
Brett Ritchie once again led the IceDogs attack offensively picking up a goal and two assists, while Chris Festarini stopped 20 of 22 shots for his 13th win of the season.
The IceDogs will now return to St. Catharines, before heading to Ottawa for a Saturday afternoon contest against the 67's and then to Kingston to take on the Frontenacs on Sunday afternoon. Both games can be seen live on TVCogeco or heard live on 610 CKTB!
