
Spirit Defeat State Rivals on Home Ice

The Saginaw Spirit took on their state rivals, the Plymouth Whalers on Wednesday night, winning at home 8 - 7.
Both Western Conference Teams came out strong in the first period. However, the Spirit started the scoring with a goal from Jimmy Lodge, assisted by Terry Trafford. Then, the Whalers followed with a goal by Anaheim Ducks prospect Rickard Rakell, assisted by Ottawa Senators prospect Stefan Noesen and Colin MacDonald. The Spirit followed up with three more goals. The first one came off the stick of Florida Panthers prospect Vince Trocheck, assisted by Jimmy Lodge and Marselis Subban. The next goal was by Jimmy Lodge, his second of the night, with assists coming from Vince Trocheck and Grant Webermin. The next goal for the Spirit was on the power play by Vince Trocheck, his second of the night, assisted by Dalton Young and Jimmy Lodge. The Whalers closed out the period with a goal by Ryan Hartman, assisted by Alex Peters and Washington Capitals prospect Tom Wilson. During this period, the Whalers made a goaltending change from Matt Mahalak to Riley Corbin. The first period ended Saginaw 4 - Plymouth 2.
The second period opened up with a power play goal for the Whalers by Stefan Noesen, assists coming from Rickard Rakell and Washington Capitals prospect Conner Carrick. The Spirit fired back with a goal off the stick of Andrey Alexeev, assisted by Dylan Sadowy and David Perklin. The Whalers responded with three more goals, the first from Stefan Noesen, his second of the night, assisted by Colorado Avalanche prospect Garrett Meurs and Colin MacDonald. The next goal for the Whalers was on a power play by Tom Wilson, with assists coming from Rickard Rakell and Stefan Noesen, which was then followed by a goal from Matthew Mistele assisted by Tom Wilson and Ryan Hartman. The Spirit came back to score another off the stick of Justin Kea, assisted by Nick Moutrey and Eric Locke. The second period ended Saginaw 6 - Plymouth 6.
The Spirit and the Whalers came out with a solid effort in the third. The scoring opened up with a goal for the Spirit by Eric Locke with assists coming from Dalton Young and Justin Kea. Eric Locke scored another goal, his second of the night, assisted by Dalton Young and Vince Trocheck. The Whalers scored the final goal of the night, on the second of the night by Matthew Mistele, assisted by Garrett Meurs. The game ended Saginaw 8 - Plymouth 7, with the shots on goal Plymouth 38 - Saginaw 33.
