IceCaps Win Third Straight with 1-0 Shutout over Devils
November 30, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
The St. John's IceCaps blanked the Albany Devils 1-0 Friday night at Times Union Center to win their third straight game.
Eddie Pasquale made 24 saves for his second shutout in his last three starts and Zach Redmond scored the game's only goal on a power play in the second period in a game that clocked in at just two hours and one minute from start to finish.
St. John's played a sound defensive game, allowing just 24 shots and killing all three Albany power play opportunities. The IceCaps have now killed off 22 consecutive penalties dating back to the third period of a game on Nov. 20 versus the Hamilton Bulldogs and have gone five straight games without allowing a power play goal.
The club's power play unit continues to improve, having now scored at least one goal with the man advantage in four straight contests.
After a scoreless first period, the IceCaps opened the scoring at 5:53 of the second on a power play goal from Redmond, his team-leading sixth of the season. On their third straight man advantage, the IceCaps controlled the puck in the offensive zone before Jason Jaffray whipped a pass from the corner into the high slot for Redmond, who fired a low hard shot that beat Frazee to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Albany had a pair of power play opportunities in the third but was unable to break through.
The IceCaps take their first three-game winning streak of the season into Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to face the Penguins on Saturday night to wrap up their three-game road trip.
