ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR - After scoreless first and second periods, the St. John's IceCaps exploded for three goals in the third period and the Hamilton Bulldogs couldn't make up the deficit as the 'Dogs (31-34-1-6) fell 3-1 to the IceCaps (43-22-2-4) on Tuesday evening at Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

St. John's forward Patrice Cormier got his team on the board just nine seconds into the third period, with assists from forward Blair Riley and defenceman Jordan Hill.

At 12:10 of the third period, IceCaps forward John Albert ripped a slap shot from the high slot past Bulldogs goaltender Devan Dubnyk to extend St. John's lead to 2-0, with an assist from forward Andrew Gordon.

Less than four minutes later, St. John's defenceman Will O'Neill put a point shot past Dubnyk to make it a 3-0 game, with assists from forward Jason Jaffray and Gordon.

Forty-six seconds after that, Bulldogs forward Connor Crisp recorded his first professional goal on his 20th birthday to get the 'Dogs on the board, 3-1, but that's as close as Hamilton would get. Forward Louis Leblanc and defenceman Davis Drewiske collected assists on the play.

Dubnyk made 36 saves on 39 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Tyler Beskorowany stopped 35 of 36 shots for the IceCaps in the win.

Hamilton went 0-for-5 on the power play, while St. John's went 0-for-3.

With the win, the IceCaps officially clinched a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The 'Dogs now sit in seven points back of a playoff spot in the Western Conference with four games remaining and could be officially eliminated from playoff contention in the event of a Rockford IceHogs win later Tuesday evening.
