ICE CHIPS
The Winnipeg ICE host the Red Deer Rebels in a 7:00 face off tonight at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena. The Rebels lead the overall WHL standings with a 15-0 record, while the ICE are 15-1. Winnipeg leads the WHL in scoring with 69 goals this season. Red Deer has allowed a WHL low 25 against.
The ICE are coming off a 5-4 victory Saturday over the Tri City Americans. Connor Dale scored his first two WHL goals. Ty Nash, Connor McClennon and Vladislav Shilo also scored while Dawson Cowan made 28 saves.
Last month, Winnipeg became the first Eastern Conference based team to go a perfect 5-0 versus the B.C. Division since the 2011-12 Kootenay ICE.
Carson Lambos was named the 24th Captain in ICE franchise history on October 6th.
The 19 year old returned from Minnesota Wild Training Camp where he appeared in three NHL preseason games. Connor McClennon, Owen Pederson and Ben Zloty were named alternate captains for 2022-23.
ICE VS REBELS
Tonight is the first of four regular season games scheduled between the ICE and Rebels (tonight @ Wpg / tomorrow @ Wpg / Jan 28 @ RD / Feb 24 @ RD).
Last season, Winnipeg earned a 3-1 record versus Red Deer. Mikey Milne (4-1-5), Zach Benson (3-2-5), Conor Geekie (0-5-5) and Matthew Savoie (0-5-5) each led the ICE with five points.
The last time the Rebels played in Winnipeg was Sunday, November 7, 2021 when Zach Benson scored twice in a 7-5 victory.
The ICE have a 4-0 record versus Red Deer at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena since relocating from Cranbrook.
