BACK FROM THE ROAD: It was a tough four-game road trip for the Pensacola Ice Pilots losing several players at different times due to a flu bug that went through almost the entire team. The Ice Pilots suffered four consecutive losses; 6-3 to the Gwinnett Gladiators, 3-2 to the Charlotte Checkers, 8-3 to the Augusta Lynx, and 6-4 to the Columbia Inferno.

DODGE/ICE PILOTS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: This week's Dodge/Ice Pilots Player of The Week is forward Dallas Steward. In four games, the speedy forward notched two goals and one assist for three points.

In 37 games this season for the Ice Pilots, Steward has 9 goals and 10 assists for 19 points. He leads the team in shorthanded goals with two and has two power play goals.

ICE CHIPS: Forward Mike Wirll continues his assault on the ECHL scoring race and is currently seventh overall at the All-Star Break. Wirll, a native of Regina, Saskatchewan has 12 points in his last seven games. Wirll is second in the ECHL with 26 goals, trailing Mike Pandolfo of Trenton by just one. Wirll also leads the league in first goals with seven.

David Wrigley extended his assist streak to six games. Since arriving on the scene in late December, John Hecimovic and Sergei Ogorodnikov have accounted for a total of nine goals and 24 points. Ogorodnikov has appeared in 13 games, while Hecimovic has played in nine.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

FRIDAY, JAN. 19 VS. TEXAS WILDCATTERS - 7:05 PM, THE HANGAR.

It's an exciting night of entertainment at The Hangar with Superfan in attendance. He likes to energize the crowd with his antics and he will give away free t-shirts to fans. There are also several big group outings planned including: Baptist Health Care Night, Biker Night and College Alumni Association Night. To get involved call, Charlie at 432-PUCK.

The busy month of January continues for the Pensacola Ice Pilots with the first of three in a row against the Texas Wildcatters. The Ice Pilots earned a split with Texas the last time the teams got together in Pensacola just before Christmas. Texas has just one win in their last five games prior to the All-Star Break.

It's Ice Man's Birthday Celebration with games and prizes for the fans to partake in. It's also Girl Scout Night and to book your Troop, call Aaron at 432-PUCK.

This is the second of three consecutive meetings between the Ice Pilots and the Wildcatters. Dan Sullivan has two goals and two assists for four points versus the Wildcatters, while Dallas Steward and Travis Lisabeth each have three goals.

SUNDAY, JAN. 21 @ TEXAS WILDCATTERS - 2:05 PM, FORD ARENA, BEAUMONT, TX.

It's just the second appearance in Beaumont by the Pensacola Ice Pilots this season. The Wildcatters scored late to win that game 6-4.

THE ROAD TRIP RECAP:

GWINNETT GLADIATORS 6 - PENSACOLA ICE PILOTS 3

The beginning of a four-game road trip started on the wrong foot for the Pensacola Ice Pilots. The blue and gold surrendered four power play goals and fell 6-3 to the Gwinnett Gladiators in Georgia. Mike Wirll, Sergei Ogorodnikov and John Hecimovic tallied for the Ice Pilots. Goaltender Michael Mole made his first start in goal for Pensacola since early December.

CHARLOTTE CHECKERS 3 - PENSACOLA ICE PILOTS 2

The Pensacola Ice Pilots played an inspired road game in Charlotte on Friday night but fell a goal short in a 3-2 loss to the Checkers. Mike Wirll scored in the first for Pensacola with John Hecimovic adding a goal in the second. The Charlotte Checkers raced out to an early 3-1 lead in the second period with two goals 3:18 apart. Goaltender Michael Mole started the game but was replaced late in the third period by Evan Lindsay due to the flu.

AUGUSTA LYNX 8 - PENSACOLA ICE PILOTS 3

The Pensacola Ice Pilots built an early 3-1 lead in the opening period only to see Augusta answer with seven consecutive goals. Mike Wirll notched a pair for Pensacola, while Dallas Steward added the other. Goaltender Evan Lindsay made his first start in an Ice Pilots' uniform.

COLUMBIA INFERNO 6 - PENSACOLA ICE PILOTS 4

This was a see-saw affair until late in the game when Columbia snapped a 3-3 tie with two power play goals on a five-minute advantage. The first goal was scored with eight seconds remaining in the second period and the second was tallied early in the third period. Mike Wirll, Dallas Steward, David Wrigley and Dwayne Hay had goals for the Ice Pilots.
