
Awe Sets ECHL Fastest Shot Record

Gladiators defenseman Jon Awe set a new ECHL All Star Skills Competition record for the fastest shot recording a 102.2 MPH slap shot in the CCM Vector Hardest Shot competition on Tuesday night at the Quest Arena in Boise, Idaho.
Awe broke Jaroslav Obsut's record of 99.3 MPH set during the 1999 ECHL All Star Game in Biloxi, Mississippi. Former Gladiators forward Derek Nesbitt finished second overall posting a 95.4 MPH shot in the competition.
Awe tied the ECHL record for most power play goals by a defenseman in one season with his 16th power play goal in the Gladiators 3-1 win over Columbia last Friday night. The Memphis, Tennessee native currently ranks first overall in the ECHL with 16 power play goals while also ranking first in scoring among defensemen with 42 points for Gwinnett.
