PENSACOLA, FL - It's been a very active summer for the Pensacola Ice Pilots in the community. Ice Pilots' players and staff and their mascot Ice Man have been busy attending several events across the Gulf Coast recently, and will be further out in the community during the month of August. BETTY J. PULLUM FAMILY YMCA GRAND OPENING: Sat., August 19, 12 - 2 PM - The Pensacola Ice Pilots will participate in the grand re-opening of the Navarre YMCA location. The Ice Pilots Mascot Ice Man, players, and staff will be present for pictures and autographs. The public is invited to attend the event which takes place from 10am-4pm. CRAM THE VAN SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE & PICK UP: The Pensacola Ice Pilots collected over 400 school supplies at the last Season Ticket Holder Beach Bash on June 26 to donate to the "Cram the Van" drive that gives school supplies to students in Escambia & Santa Rosa counties. Ice Pilots season ticket holders and fans can still drop school supplies when they visit the new Ice Pilots office located at the rear of the Civic Center. Representatives from "Cram the Van" will pick up the collected school supplies at the Ice Pilots office on Wednesday, August 9 (time TBA). Supplies needed include scissors, #2 pencils, crayons, glue, glue sticks, wide-ruled and college-ruled paper and more. "Cram the Van" is sponsored by United Way of Escambia County, WEAR TV 3 and Sandy Sansing Chevrolet. For more information on "Cram the Van", call United Way at (850) 434-3157.
UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA PART-TIME JOB FAIR: Thurs., Aug. 31, 1:00 - 5:00pm - UWF is hosting a part-time job fair during Welcome Week on UWF campus (at the Commons Auditorium). The Pensacola Ice Pilots staff will have an information booth at the event. UNITED WAY DAY OF CARING: Fri., Sept. 15, 7:30am - The Pensacola Ice Pilots will be participating in the annual Day of Caring event. Mascot Ice Man, players, and staff will be present at the breakfast kick-off at Sam's Fun City (on Pensacola Blvd.) in the morning and then volunteer for half a day with a community agency. PENSACOLA SYMPHONY BALL "ROMANCE & RHYTHM": Sat., Sept. 16, 6:00 - 10:00pm - The Pensacola Ice Pilots are a proud sponsor of the Symphony Ball, a black tie gala that takes place at New World Landing. There will be a live and silent auction, dinner, and dancing with a swing band. Cost is $150 per person. The Pensacola Ice Pilots staff and players will be present at the event. COVENANT HOSPICE'S "A WALK TO REMEMBER": Sat., Sept. 30, 8:30am - The Pensacola Ice Pilots are a Celebrate Life sponsor of Covenant Hospice's "A Walk to Remember" at the University of West Florida's campus (11000 University Pkwy.). The Ice Pilots mascot Ice Man, players, and staff will be present at the Children's Station along the walk. Registration fee is $25 for adults, $10 for Full-time students, $10 for Military, and children 12 and under are free. Registration for the 3K walk begins at 7:30am at the Commons. PENSACOLA ICE PILOTS KIDS CLUB: Kids ages 3 and up are invited to join the Pensacola Ice Pilots Kids Club! Kids Club members will receive a membership card, t-shirt, invitation to an exclusive meet and greet party with the Ice Pilots team, free admission to all Sunday games, a birthday card from the team and more! COUNCIL ON AGING "SENIOR CHILL OUT": On Friday, July 21, The Pensacola Ice Pilots teamed up with WEAR Channel 3, Cat Country, Q100 FM, Magic 106 FM, WCOA News Talk 1370 AM with "Senior Chill Out", a fundraiser to benefit the Council on Aging for the second year in a row. Council on Aging staff were at area Lowe's locations (on Fairfield Dr. & Airport Blvd in Pensacola, and Hwy. 98 in Gulf Breeze) collecting monetary donations, fans and AC Units for the elderly. This year, over $6800 was collected (a 307% increase from last year), 58 AC units (a 64% increase), and 250 fans (a 30% increase), all to help the elderly keep cool during the hot summer months! Ice Man and staff visited with fans at all three locations. Thanks to all our fans for helping make this event a BIG success!
COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION SPOTLIGHT EVENT: On Saturday, Aug. 5, The Ice Pilots participated in the Bushwacker 5K Run to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida . Capt'n Fun Runners Club hosted the annual 5K run / walk which began at the South Santa Rosa Recreational Center on Shoreline Drive and ended with a big party at Capt'n Fun Beach Club on Quietwater Boardwalk.
