Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CON - The coaching staff of the Pensacola Ice Pilots are in Bridgeport, Connecticut this week taking part in the training camp of their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers training camp.
Head Coach George Dupont and Assistant Coach Joe Clark have been evaluating players and observing practices that have been carried out by Bridgeport Head Coach Dan Marshall, and Assistant Coaches Joe Ferras, Jack Capuano and Bernie Cassell.
"They are a young team, and have a lot of guys who are going to work hard," said Ice Pilots Head Coach George Dupont. "The philosophy has been to show up and work hard and is kind of what has been demonstrated."
"It's a definite asset," Sound Tigers Head Coach Dan Marshall said of having the other coaches on hand during training camp. Marshall said the extra sets of eyes help make decisions on which players need more or less development as the start of the regular season approaches.
"It's really a short training camp - five games in seven nights. You have to make some quick decisions."
Tyler Liebel, Jocelyn Dubord, Dan Sullivan and goaltender Jeff Pietrasiak are participating at the Sound Tigers camp.
"Part of having a good relationship is the willingness to share ideas, both Joe and I have found there has been open communication free flow of information," Dupont said of the affiliation to date. "I think it is going to be a strong affiliation and there is every indication that we are going to be good team and organization from top to bottom."
On Tuesday night, the Sound Tigers were in Danbury Connecticut for an exhibition game where they beat the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-3 in overtime before 1,127 fans at the Danbury Ice Arena. Drew Fata fired a slap shot past Wolf Pack goaltender Alex Westlund with just 11 seconds remaining in the extra session.
Sound Tigers goaltender Billy Thompson made 41 saves - he kicked aside 16 of 17 first period shots, including several on a 5-on-3 Hartford power play. Thompson stopped seven shots in overtime.
There is less than two weeks until the Pensacola Ice Pilots training camp faces off at The Hangar. Full and partial season tickets are currently available and for further information please contact the Ice Pilots office at (850) 432-PUCK.
