Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have invited three more players to their 2006 training camp, which begins on-ice at Ben Boeke Arena Saturday, October 7 at 3:00 p.m.
Jeff Smith, a 6-6, 224-pound winger, played on the Trenton team that defeated Alaska in seven games in the 2005 National Conference Finals. Having split his first three pro seasons between the Titans and the Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL), the 25-year-old Smith played all but one game last year with Columbia in the ECHL, scoring seven goals and assisting on nine others in 54 games for the Inferno. In juniors, he scored 22 goals for a Red Deer (WHL) club that won the 2001 Memorial Cup.
Florian Iberer and the 6-6, 215-pound Martin Ondruska should provide depth on the blue line. Iberer made his North American debut last year after five seasons in the Austrian Elite League, scoring 33 points (3g-30a) with Elmira and Quad City in the United Hockey League. He represented his country at the 2002 World Juniors in the Czech Republic. Ondruska, who will turn 22 next month, finished +52 last year with two pro teams in his native Slovakia.
Head coach Davis Payne suspects that a total of 26 players will participate at this year's camp, depending on what transpires with the Alaska's NHL (St. Louis) and AHL (Peoria) affiliates. For the fourth consecutive year, the Aces will play host to a pair of pre-season games in the first week of camp, October 10 and 11, against the North Division champion Toledo Storm. Both games will start at 7:15 p.m. Alaska has posted a 5-1 record in six previous pre-season contests under Payne, all at home. All practice sessions during training camp are free and open to the public.
Single-game tickets for the pre-season games as well as all 2006-07 regular season tickets go on sale Monday, October 2, at 8:00 a.m. Tickets will be available at the Aces office, Sullivan Arena, online at www.alaskaaces.com and all Fred Meyer locations in Anchorage, or fans may call Ticketmaster at (907) 562-4800. Those fans wishing to secure season tickets should contact the Aces office immediately in order to secure the best seats still available for all home games during the regular season, as well as first priority in retaining those seats for any 2007 ECHL playoff games.
Alaska's regular season opens in Sullivan Arena Friday, October 20, at 7:15 p.m. against the Victoria Salmon Kings. Pre-season ticket pricing for the games against Toledo has been set at only $10, regardless of seat location.
