
Ice Pilots Announce the Signing of rookie Andrew Leach

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots added another rookie to its roster today with the signing of University of New Hampshire product Andrew Leach.
Leach appeared in 40 games with the Wildcats and had four goals and three assists for seven points and 39 penalty minutes. He was named Assistant Captain for that season.
"Andrew is coming from one of the premier collegiate programs in the country," said Dupont. "He has a reputation of being a tireless worker and a good teammate ... things that the Ice Pilots will pride ourselves on this year."
Leach, a native of Albany, New York, appeared in 53 games during his first year three years at New Hampshire and had two goals and seven assists for nine points and 34 penalty minutes. While at New Hampshire the school qualified for four trips to the NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Championships. In his first year, 2003, the Wildcats lost in the final to the University of Minnesota.
"My uncles spoke with Joe Clark, the assistant coach, and told me to come down when I was done my college career and I jumped on it right away," said Leach. "I am looking forward to getting my professional career started and do what I can to fit into my role and help the hockey club."
Leach has some impressive pedigree within professional hockey. His brother, Jay, has played in more than 150 AHL games, and got his first taste of the NHL last season with the Boston Bruins. Uncle Mark Leach is a long-time NHL scout with the Detroit Red Wings, while another uncle, Jay, is an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals. A third uncle, Steve Leach, played for the Boston Bruins and the Washington Capitals.
Andrew Leach is the 20th player to be signed by the Pensacola Ice Pilots for the 2006-2007 season.
