August 28, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH- Dayton Bombers Head Coach and General Manager Don MacAdam announced today the re-signing of veteran forward Matt Herneisen. As per club policy terms and conditions of the deal were not disclosed.
"We need Matt to have an injury free year for us," said MacAdam. "It's his fourth year as a pro and this is a big opportunity for him to play at the top of his game."
Herneisen was forced to miss 24 games last season due to back and knee injuries. Despite those injuries, he appeared in 48 games for the Bombers, recording 19 points (9G, 10A) and accumulating 112 penalty minutes. Herneisen also played an important role on the power play and netted 8 of his 9 goals during the man advantage situation.
"I am hoping to come back and stay healthy for once," said Herneisen. "My goals this season are to get back to being an impact player and contributing more offensively."
The 6'0", 180-pound native of Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, has appeared in 113 games, recording 52 points (21G, 31A) and accumulating 313 penalty minutes during his career as a Bomber. Prior to being trading to Dayton from Trenton in the 2003-04 season, Herneisen appeared in 37 games, recorded 12 points (4G, 8A) and accumulated 109 penalty minutes in two seasons with the Titans.
Herneisen becomes the eleventh player to sign or re-sign with the Bombers for the 2006-07 season, joining the likes of Marco Caprara, A.J. MacLean, Greg Labenski, Kris Vernarsky, Paul Kelly, Dan Knapp, Andy Cote, Preston Briggs, Jon Booras and David Currie.
