Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium, now in its seventh season as Lancaster's only outdoor ice skating facility, will be ready just in time for holiday fun as it will open on Friday, December 21 for the 2012-13 winter season and will remain in operation through Presidents' Day, February 18. Friday's opening comes one day later than originally planned due to warm weather conditions this week that have hampered our ability to create the base layer of ice.
New for this winter, the Barnstormers are teaming up with Regency Ice Rink to bring instructional classes and additional activity to the Ice Park along with open public skate sessions. Ice skating enthusiasts and beginners will now be able to participate in learn to skate programs, learn to play hockey programs and even Broomball on the outdoor ice rink at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
"We're excited to partner with Regency Ice Rink to offer the Lancaster community a really neat opportunity to take skating and hockey lessons at our unique outdoor rink," stated Lisa Riggs, Lancaster Barnstormers president. "Clipper Magazine Stadium is a great venue, particularly for families, to enjoy time outdoors during the winter."
Throughout this season, the Ice Park will be open for public skating Thursday and Friday evenings from 7:00 PM-9:00 PM, Saturdays from 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM and Sundays from 1:00 - 4:00 in the afternoon each week. In addition, there will be skating from noon through 6:00 PM on the two Monday holidays, Martin Luther King Day on January 21 and the closing session on Presidents' Day, this winter.
Frequent visitors to Clipper Magazine Stadium's Ice Park will benefit from a new discount punch card. For just $50, skaters can receive six sessions plus skate rentals, a total savings of $10. Admission for unlimited skating is just $7.00 while skate rental is $3.00 for each individual session.
During the week between Christmas and New Year's, the Ice Park will feature the return of the Holiday Mite Jamboree, a youth hockey tournament organized by Regency Ice Rink, with teams battling for supremacy on the outdoor rink.
