Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Flyers took to the ice in Carver Arena for the second straight night looking to leave with another win. They did just that, although it may have been a little closer than they wanted, with a 3-2 shootout win.

Just like last night, the Ice Flyers scored first. Tonight's first goal came when a shot by Paul Rodrigues ricocheted off of Peoria's Cole Ruwe and deflected into the net for the power play marker. Donnie Harris and Joe Caveney picked up the assists. With 1:44 left in the period, Peoria's Parker Stanfield and Pensacola's Mike MacIntyre dropped the gloves. Stanfield got a few shots in early but MacIntyre finished strong and sent Stanfield to the ice.

John Dunbar put the Ice Flyers up 2-0 after 2:47 had ticked off the clock in the second period. Ryan Salvis and Steve Bergin picked up the helpers on Dunbar's third goal since rejoining the Ice Flyers. With the teams skating at four players a side, Peoria's Garrett Vermeersch cut the score to 2-1 with 6:41 gone in the second.

Peoria continued their comeback efforts in the third period and it finally paid off when the Rivermen's Steve Morra beat Peter Di Salvo to tie the game with 7:45 left in regulation. Morra's goal proved to be the last of regulation and the two teams headed to the five-minute overtime period tied at two.

The overtime period ended just as it began with the teams tied so the game headed to a shootout. In the shootout, Di Salvo stopped every Peoria shooter while Ice Flyers captain Ryan Salvis scored the lone goal for the Ice Flyers to secure the win.

On top of stopping all five shooters Peoria sent his way in the shootout, Di Salvo stopped 35 of the Rivermen's 37 shots on goal and picked up his sixth win of the season. Salvis was named the third star of the night.

The Pensacola Ice Flyers and Peoria Rivermen will complete their three game series tomorrow night in Carver Arena at the Peoria Civic Center. Game time will be 7:15 p.m. Central.
