Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (11-6-1) downed the Louisiana IceGators (7-9-3) for the third straight game with Sunday afternoon's 4-3 shootout victory.

After a scoreless first period, it only took 5:19 of play in the second for Corey Banfield to score an unassisted goal for the 1-0 lead. Louisiana was able to tie the game thanks to a tally by Geordie Wudrick 8:35 into the second but less than a minute later Cody Dion's first goal of the season gave the Ice Flyers the lead again. Stephen Buco and Joe Caveney assisted on the goal that came with 10:34 left in the second period. Josh Daniels tied the game at two with a goal for Louisiana with 7:14 left in the second before the IceGators got their first lead of the game thanks to Wudrick 30 seconds later.

The Ice Flyers' penalty kill unit did their job and then some as Ryan Kesti scored a shorthanded goal, assisted by John Clewlow, with 8:10 remaining in the third period. That proved to be the only goal of the third period so the teams headed to overtime tied at three. With overtime settling nothing, the teams went to a shootout.

Jeremy Gates, Kesti, and Caveney scored for the Ice Flyers in the shootout while only Jeremy Boyer scored for Louisiana to secure the 4-3 win for Pensacola.

John McLean stopped 21 of Louisiana's 24 shots and three for the four shooters he faced in the shootout for his third straight win and improve to 3-0-0 on the season.

The Ice Flyers will return to the ice after the Christmas break when they take on the Mississippi RiverKings on Saturday, Dec. 26 inside the Pensacola Bay Center with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It will be Military Appreciation Night. All active duty and retired military members can show their military ID at the Box Office to receive 35% off of a Center Ice ticket for themselves and everyone in their party.
