RED-HOT SUMMERS
Last night's game included a goal and two assists for veteran Rivermen winger Matt Summers, his fourth multi-point contest this season. After failing to score a point from November 7 to December 4, Summers now has nine points in his last six games. Six goals this year gives Summers 16 to go with 30 assists in 61 games during his SPHL career after he spent several years playing in the Central Hockey League.
TOOMEY COMES TO PEORIA
Last night's game featured another impressive performance for Peoria rookie Connor Toomey after he was acquired in a trade with Macon last Sunday. In two games with Peoria, Toomey has two goals and two assists along with a +5 rating. In 17 games with the Mayhem prior to the trade, the rookie center had three goals and 11 assists.
AND THE GLOVES COME OFF
Last night's game saw Peoria whistled for 44 penalty minutes, 24 against winger Alec Hagaman. The Peoria native is in his second season with the Rivermen, and received a fighting major and a 10-minute continuing altercation misconduct penalty in the second period before he was issued a double-minor for roughing early in the third stanza and received another fighting major at the 15:51 mark of the third.
THE WHOLE SHOOTING MATCH
Last night saw the Rivermen out-shoot the Cottonmouths 51-25, the most shots on goal in one game for Peoria this season. In two games against Columbus this year, the Rivermen have out-shot the Cottonmouths 99-53. Peoria is 8-4-1 this season when out-shooting their opponents.WHAT'S AHEAD
After tonight's game the Rivermen will return home for a brief two-game series January 1&2 with the Huntsville Havoc. After that series, Peoria will return to the road for three games at Fayetteville (January 8&9) and Macon (January 10), and will follow that with another road weekend January 15&16 at Huntsville before finishing a stretch of road games in Macon January 21 and Columbus January 22 &23.
