
Ice Flyers Win 4-3 in OT

PENSACOLA, FL - T he Pensacola Ice Flyers looked to get back in the win column and did just with an exciting 4-3 overtime win on Faith & Family Night.
Special teams played a key role in the first period. The Ice Flyers were on a penalty kill when Ryan Salvis picked up the puck and tore up the left wing. He passed the puck over to a wide open Adam Pawlick who then ripped it into a wide open net to give the Ice Flyers the 1-0 lead 5:25 into the game. A little over eight minutes later, the Ice Flyers had a very brief power play as Drew Baker stepped out of the box seconds before Steve Whitely threw the puck on the net and it worked its way past Knoxville goalie Bryan Hince to put the Flyers up 2-0. Joe Caveney and Ice Flyers newcomer Matt Smyth picked up the assists.
Knoxville cut the Ice Flyers' lead down to 2-1 with 11:52 remaining in the second when Francis Drolet put the puck behind Pensacola's Peter Di Salvo. In the third period, Joe Caveney pushed the Ice Flyers' lead up to 3-1 just 2:42 into the period. Matt Smyth and Shaun Arvai picked up the assists.
Knoxville mounted another come back and it began when Cody Dion backhanded a rebound with 7:35 remaining in the game. Then, with 1:35 remaining in the game, Ben Power tied the game at three. The two teams played 3:34 of scoreless overtime hockey until Donnie Harris blasted one from the left wing faceoff circle to seal the win. Podge Turnbull and Harry Radovich had the helpers for Harris' goal.
Peter Di Salvo stopped 43 of 46 shots en route to his third win of the season. Pensacola swept the Three Stars with Matt Smyth being named third, Joe Caveney second, and Donnie Harris first.
These same two teams will face each other again tomorrow at 7:05 in the Pensacola Bay Center for Military Appreciation Night.
