
Ice Flyers Tied for First with 3-2 Win over RiverKings

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Flyers defeated the Mississippi RiverKings in front of a crowd of 3,228 at the Pensacola Bay Center on Saturday night with a final score of 3-2.
It was a mere 1:21 into the first period that Matt Whithead gave the RiverKings the 1-0 lead. Following the early goal, the Ice Flyers took charge with a goal from Michael Budd and power play goals from Drew Baker and Mitchell Good to take a 3-1 lead. Budd also had assists on both power play goals.
Mississippi pulled within one with a goal from Matt Harrington to make it 3-2 at the 13:30 mark of the second period.
Despite the late effort in the third with a pulled goalie, the RiverKings were unable to find the game-tying goal and the Ice Flyers took the game with a final score of 3-2.
Shots on goal were fairly even with 31 shots for Pensacola and 30 for Mississippi. The Ice Flyers were 2 for 5 on the power play and were successful on both penalty kills.
With the victory, Pensacola has improved to a record of 10-2-2 and are now tied with the Knoxville Ice Bears for first place in the SPHL with 22 points.
Both teams meet again tomorrow with the opening face-off set for 4:05 p.m. Tomorrow's game is "Scout Day/Mascot Night".
