Szabados Stymies Huntsville, Columbus Wins 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Shannon Szabados helped the Columbus Cottonmouths defeat the Huntsville Havoc, 2-1.

Columbus was led by Max Cook, who racked up one goal. Cook scored 18:55 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Columbus.

The Cottonmouths' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 26 minutes in penalty time. Columbus surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cottonmouths excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The 35 shots that Columbus put on net surpassed the Cottonmouths' average of 28.3 shots per game this season.

Columbus also got a goal from Bryce Williamson as well. More assists for Columbus came via Mike Switzer and Neilsson Arcibal, who each chipped in one.

Huntsville was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The Havoc had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. By firing 34 shots on goal, Huntsville exceeded the 24.8 shots it averages per game this year.

The Havoc were led by Mike Gurtler, who scored the team's only goal. Gurtler scored 14:34 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Nick Lazorko provided the assist.

Shannon Szabados made 33 saves for Columbus on 34 shots. The Cottonmouths registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Kevin Genoe recorded 33 saves for Huntsville.
