Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
Pensacola, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers travelled to Columbus, GA. Tuesday night to face the Cottonmouths and looked for redemption for their season-opening 4-0 loss back on Oct. 26. The Ice Flyers accomplished that and came away with their fourth consecutive road win, 2-1.
Pensacola outshot Columbus 25-23 in the game. Patrick Knowlton led the way in shots for the Ice Flyers with six, while Jordan Braid also fire six shots on goal to top the Cottonmouths.
The Ice Flyers, with the second best power play in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), had plenty of opportunities to increase their power play percentage but could not capitalize on the man advantage in six tries. The Cottonmouths only had one chance with the power play and did not score.
John Dunbar of the Ice Flyers opened the scoring near the halfway mark of first. Leo Thomas and Gabriel Boutin-Gagnon collected the assists on the play.
After no scoring in the second period, Knowlton buried his fifth goal of the season and the eventual game winner just a couple minutes into the third. Columbus' Braid would break the shutout for Ice Flyers' rookie goaltender Ross MacKinnon with just six minutes remaining. However that was all that beat MacKinnon this night as he won his second game in three starts.
The Ice Flyers improved to 6-2-2 and the Cottonmouths fell to 2-4-1.
Columbus travels to Biloxi, MS. to take on the Surge Wednesday night. Pensacola plays a home-and-home series with the Mississippi RiverKings when they travel to Southaven, MS. on Friday night and return home Saturday night for Mascot Night at the Pensacola Bay Center.
