Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola ice Flyers hosted the Mississippi Surge for the second Friday in a row and, just like last week, ended the night with a resounding 6-1 win.
The Ice Flyers didn't hesitate and got on the board just 51 seconds into the game. Brett Lutes put the puck behind the Surge's Mathieu Dugas with John Dunbar and Ryan Salvis picking up the assists. The score stood at 1-0 until the 13:05 mark of the first when Adam Pawlick scored assisted by Roman Andrejev and Keegan Flaherty. Less than a minute later, Joe Caveney was awarded a penalty shot. On his attempt, Caveney skated in on Dugas, deked, and then eventually slid the puck five hole for the 3-0 lead. Pensacola took a 4-0 lead into the first intermission after Podge Turnbull scored with only 1:14 left in the frame. Corey Banfield had the lone assist on Turnbull's goal.
The Surge finally found twine when Dean Moore scored 6:01 into the second. Pensacola reestablished the four-goal lead with a power play goal by Pawlick. Pawlick was set up in front of the crease and redirected a crisp pass from Salvis. Dunbar picked up the secondary assist on Pawlick's second goal of the night.
For the majority of the third period, the score stood at 5-1 until Turnbull netted his second goal of the night with only 1:36 left in the game. Steve Bergin and Banfield had the helpers.
Peter Di Salvo stopped 39 of the Surge's 40 shots for his eighth win of the season.
The Ice Flyers' next game is tomorrow night in the Hangar as they take on the Mississippi RiverKings for Military Appreciation Night. Active duty/retired military and their families can purchase $10 Center Ice tickets by presenting their Military ID at the Pensacola Bay Center's Box Office. ###
