
Surge Halt RiverKings' Streak at Three

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Ian Boots scored two goals and the Mississippi Surge (15-16-1) peppered 46 shots on Matt Krahn as they took a 4-3 win in overtime to snap the Mississippi RiverKings' (19-9-3) winning streak at three on Thursday night.
The RiverKings scored the lone goal of the first period 11:56 in. Leo Thomas slid a rebound between the legs of Mathieu Dugas to give the RiverKings a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
In the second, the Surge struck. Kyle Kudroch tied the game at one from Kyle Fletcher and Jarkko Leppanen 6:45 into the second. One minute later, Matt Whitehead gave the RiverKings their lead back on a pass from Devin Mantha to give the team a 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
The Surge battled back to take the lead early in the third period. Ian Boots tied the game at one when he slid the puck between the legs of Krahn to tie the game at two just 1:33 into the period. Just 1:44 later, Anthony Battaglia gave the Surge their first lead of the night, 3-2.
After the Surge took their third penalty of the third period, the RiverKings capitalized. Paul Clancy's shot from the blueline beat Dugas over the glove to tie the game at three and send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Matt Krahn denied Ian Boots' first breakaway attempt, but Boots' second shot found the back of the net 3:34 into the period to give the Surge a 4-3 overtime victory.
Matt Krahn (9-3-3) took the loss after stopping 42 of 46 shots against. Mathieu Dugas (6-8-1) turned aside 32 of 35 shots against in the win.
