Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - (January 23, 2014) Knoxville returned to the Civic Coliseum to rematch the Huntsville Havoc tonight. A crowd of 2,249 saw Huntsville skate off with the 6-3 win.
Huntsville took a quick lead when Scott Harff scored just 1 minute into the first period. The Ice Bears weren't able to tie it up on the power play when Stuart Stefan was penalized 4 seconds after Huntsville's goal. At 5:11, Mark Van Vliet sent a wrist shot past former Ice Bears' goalie Jesse Kallechy off a precision pass from Francis Drolet to tie the game.
With 1 minute left in the first, David Segal dropped his gloves with Paul Kurceba. Then with 37.9 seconds until intermission, Huntsville's Leland Fidler wristed a shot past a mass of humanity and Knoxville goaltender, Bryan Hince, to put the road team up by one.
Huntsville's Josh Harris shot the puck over Hince's shoulder and notched the Havoc's third goal at 8:01. Just over 8 minutes later Eric Satim notched his twelfth goal of the season with an assist from Ben Power and Drolet to complete the scoring in the middle frame. Huntsville maintained their lead 3-2.
Knoxville began the third period skating 5-on-4 after Eric Alexander was penalized 2 minutes for roughing with 43 seconds remaining in the second. At 18:06, David Segal was sent to the ice after colliding knee-on-knee with Alexander. This was Segal's first game back after coming off 30 day injured reserve. Alexander received 5 minutes for kneeing and a game misconduct.
During Alexander's penalty, Kallechy was penalized 2 minutes for delay of game putting the Ice Bears up with 5-on-3 advantage. Following 1 minute later, Satim was sent to the box for interference. Despite all the power play opportunities, the score remained at 2-3.
Then at 11:16, Power blistered the puck over Kallechy's glove to tie the game at 3. Satim received the first assist, and Drolet earned his third assist of the night. At 13:01 Huntsville got the puck in low on Hince's glove-side putting them back in the lead. The Havoc followed with their fifth goal at 18:12.
Knoxville pulled Hince to skate a sixth attacker, but Huntsville finished off the night with an empty-netter. Knoxville is hitting the road to play two away games in Peoria, IL.
