PEORIA, Ill. (March 6, 2016) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (23-17-3) couldn't Peoria Rivermen (32-9-3) goalie David Jacobson who stopped all 53 Ice Flyers shots to post his first professional shutout on Sunday afternoon as the Rivermen won 3-0.
After a first period that was high in shots but ultimately scoreless, the Rivermen started finding the back of the net. Adam Stuart converted a power play opportunity 2:20 into the second to open the scoring. Corey Banfield had a chance to tie the game up when he was award a penalty shot at the 3:16 mark but Jacobson slammed the door shut, preserving the Peoria lead.
The Rivermen converted on another power play opportunity with 10:15 remaining in the second when Mike Gurtler put the puck past Brent Troyan. Peoria pushed their lead to 3-0 with an even strength goal by the Mark Corbett with 5:38 remaining in the middle period.
Troyan stopped 28 of the 31 Peoria shots he faced and picked up his third loss in as many starts.
The Ice Flyers' next game will again be on the road as they head to Lafayette, La., to face the Louisiana IceGators on Wednesday night inside the Cajundome.
