Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. (September 5, 2013) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers, the 2013 SPHL President's Cup Champions, have re-signed two members from last season's championship team as defensemen Mike MacIntyre and Florida-native Brad Cooper both rejoin the team.
"Mike and Brad were big parts of the success last year and I'm happy to have two defensemen with their work ethic and championship experience back on our blue line," said Ice Flyers head coach Rod Aldoff. "They'll add depth to our defense corps and I expect a lot from them. I believe they're going to do very well with their experience last year not only in this league but also in Pensacola. They know what it takes to get it done."
MacIntyre is a 22-year-old, second year professional. The 6' 0", 196 lbs. native of Belle River, Ontario began last season with the Federal Hockey League's Williamsport Outlaws where he played 16 games and had 4 assists, 14 penalty minutes, and a +7 plus/minus.
He joined the Ice Flyers in late November and played in 42 of the team's regular season games. In those games, he had 17 points (8 goals, 9 assists), 60 penalty minutes, and a +1. MacIntyre played in all 7 of the Ice Flyers' playoff games and had 9 penalty minutes along with a +1.
Cooper is a 24-year-old and is also a second year pro. He stands 5' 9", weighs 175, and hails from Boca Raton, FL. Last season he split his rookie campaign between the Huntsville Havoc and the Ice Flyers. He played 10 games with the Havoc and had 1 assist, 15 penalty minutes, and -1.
He was released from Huntsville in December and signed by the Ice Flyers on January 11. He then played 28 regular season games and had 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist), 31 penalty minutes, and a +5. In the Ice Flyers' 7 playoff games, Cooper put up 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists), 4 penalty minutes, and a +2. His lone playoff goal helped solidify an Ice Flyers championship when he scored to go up 2-0 against the Havoc in the final game of the SPHL Finals.
