Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
The Ice Flyers came into tonight's game with the Louisiana IceGators looking for two things: 1) to pass the Gators and grab 4th place in the SPHL standings; and 2) get redemption for last Tuesday's loss that snapped the Flyers' 4-game win streak. The Ice Flyers got what they were looking for with a solid 3-1 win. Also, fittingly enough, this win gives the Ice Flyers another 4-game streak.
Andrew Harrison started off the scoring 5:43 into the first when he fired the puck past the Louisiana's Dan Earles with the assists going to the Ryans Corry and Salvis. A little over 10 minutes later the Ice Flyers took a 2-0 lead when Matthew Robertson took a pass from Andrew Howes and put it in the back of the net.
Louisiana broke Adam Ward's bid for a shutout in his first game since December 10th when, the IceGators' leading scorer, Jason Hill scored. The first period was fairly tame with only one penalty per team but a little past the halfway mark of the game, that all changed when Andrew Howes and Louisiana's Phil Crea got into a fight. Adam Kuhn would close out the second period by getting into a scrap with Louisiana's Alex Morton.
With Adam Ward feeling a little under the weather after two, Steve Christie stepped into the crease. The third period was back-and-forth and fairly uneventful until Kevin Brojek was dragged into a scrap with the IceGators' Lester Barras. Barras also picked up a penalty for Instigating and the Ice Flyers would push their lead to 3-1 when Harrison got his second goal of the game with just 1 second left in the penalty. It was another pair of Ryans on the assists but this time it was Salvis and Ramage.
Adam Ward stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced while Steve Christie stopped all 7 he faced. Ward picked up the win, his 4 this season. For his work Ward was named the game's 3rd star, Matthew Robertson was named the 2nd star, and Andrew Harrison was the 1st star.
The Ice Flyers now head to Huntsville to take on the Huntsville Havoc. The puck drops at 7:30 PM CT tomorrow night. They then take on the Knoxville Ice Bears at home on Saturday at 7:05 PM CT.
