Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
Head Coach Todd Gordon of the Pensacola Ice Flyers has made a few roster changes during the week of Thanksgiving.
Starting last Saturday, the Ice Flyers' signed Chris Campanale to a 3-game tryout. Campanale started the season with the Augusta RiverHawks before coming to the gulf coast. In the lone game of last weekend, he was placed on a line with veterans Dan Buccella and Mike Carter, and tallied an assist.
Defenseman Chris Pontes was the next move for Gordon, as he was traded to the Mississippi RiverKings. Pensacola acquired defenseman Ryan Ramage in the deal, who split last season between Knoxville and Louisiana. That same day, Gordon also placed Chris Wilson on the 30-Day Injured Reserve List.
The Ice Flyers picked up another defenseman in the signing of Donnie Harris, who is entering his first season of pro hockey and started the 2011-2012 season off with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL. Harris finished off his Junior Hockey career with the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
Gordon then made a change between the pipes. Steve Christie has signed with the Ice Flyers, who is coming off a very successful college hockey career at the University of Manitoba. In 2009-2010, he was named the CIS Men's Hockey Goaltender of the Year. Christie began this season with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. To make room for Christie, Gordon placed backup goaltender Erik Hudson on waivers.
The Ice Flyers also added a forward, Anthony Ciraulo, who has been signed to a 3-game tryout contract. After playing at the University of Michigan, Ciraulo spent time with the Bloomington PrairieThunder of the CHL last season.
The Ice Flyers are on the road Friday night in Augusta, and will return home for Saturday night to face off against the Huntsville Havoc. It is Mascot Night at The Hangar for Saturday's game. Bring all the family that is in for Thanksgiving, and let the kids spend time with numerous mascots and take pictures with them. The night is sponsored by Tom Thumb, and mascots will be participating in different contests throughout the game.
1450 ESPN Pensacola will be broadcasting Saturday night's game, and will now host a live post-game show. Fans can call toll free 1-855-444-3776 up to a half hour after the game to discuss the game with Ice Flyers' play-by-play announcer Paul Chesnutt. Either Coach Todd Gordon or a player will join Paul for the post-game discussion.
