November 24, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release

The Augusta RiverHawks used an offensively-charged second period to propel them to a 5-4 victory on Thanksgiving Night in Fayetteville, NC against the FireAntz. The two teams combined for five goals in the second frame, three of which were scored by the RiverHawks.

While the goals have not been as plentiful this season for reigning SPHL Most Valuable Player Matt Auffrey, they have been clutch as it was Auffrey's second goal of the season that went down as a the game-winner. It was also his second game winning goal of the season.

Goaltender Jon Olthuis picked up the win in his first start with the RiverHawks since rejoining the team earlier this week. He spent the first part of the season in the Central Hockey League, and has only played in one other game since the start of the campaign. He made 31 saves in a successful initial outing.

Forward Jim Gehring had another big night in what appears to be a breakout season offensively. He was named the game's first star after scoring a goal and adding two assists. His totals bump him to fifth in the SPHL in scoring and second in the league in assists.

Other RiverHawks' who enjoyed strong games offensively were Chris Doyle and Dustin Cloutier, each of whom chipped in with a goal and an assist. Defenseman Ed Snetsinger was a force at both ends of the ice, picking up and assist and logging a +3 rating on the night.

The RiverHawks are back in action on Phoenix Refrigeration Ice at the James Brown Arena Friday, November 25th as they play the Pensacola Ice Flyers. The puck drops at 7:35pm. Tickets for the game are available through the RiverHawks' office and the James Brown Arena box office. Additional information on the Team, tickets, and schedule are available on the RiverHawks' home on the web, www.augustariverhawks.com or by calling 706-993-2645.
