Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Ice Flyers hosted the Huntsville Havoc on a night that also saw them draw a crowd of 8,046, a new franchise record. The Havoc escaped a late Pensacola onslaught and won the game 5-3 thanks to an empty net goal with less than three seconds remaining.

The Havoc jumped on the scoreboard first when a defensive breakdown by the Ice Flyers allowed Huntsville's Nick Lazorko to skate in on Peter Di Salvo all alone and slide the puck five hole for the goal. That was the lone goal in a period that saw the Ice Flyers out shoot the Havoc 13-9.

Huntsville stretched their lead to 2-0 when Ray Ortiz scored 7:33 into the period. Pensacola got on the board when Joe Caveney deflected in a puck for his first goal since rejoining the team. Malcolm Lyles and Shaun Arvai assisted on Caveney's goal. Huntsville regained the two-goal lead when Lazorko picked up his second goal of the game with 4:37 remaining in the frame.

John Dunbar struck 7:34 into the third to cut Huntsville's lead down to 3-2 when he ripped a laser that beat Jesse Kallechy. Arvai had the only assist on Dunbar's tally. Huntsville again regained the two-goal lead after Stuart Stefan scored with 6:15 remaining in regulation. The score stood at 4-2 until Brett Lutes connected on a power play goal with just 53.1 seconds remaining in the third. The Ice Flyers pulled Di Salvo in favor of the extra attacker but it didn't work out as Stefan shot the puck down the rink and scored an empty net goal with 2.7 seconds remaining.

Di Salvo stopped 27 of the 31 shots he saw from Huntsville.

The Ice Flyers' next game is tomorrow afternoon at 5 p.m. in Huntsville, Alabama as they take on these same Huntsville Havoc in Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center.
