
Ice Flyers Fall 3-2 in the Home Opener against the Bulls

PENSACOLA, Fla. -The Pensacola Ice Flyers lost 3-2 in their home opener against the Birmingham Bulls. The Ice Flyers goals were both scored by Brian Bowen. The Bulls goals were scored by Geoff Crisfield, Mike Davis and Caleb Apperson.
The first period was an eventful one, including matching fighting majors for Birmingham's Craig Simchuk and Pensacola's Cory Melkert. In total, the period racked up 22 penalty minutes - Birmingham with 13 and Pensacola with 9. Brian Bowen opened up the scoring at 10:17 in the first period on a power play, assisted by Brett D'Andrea and Tanner Froese.
In the second period, Bowen scored again to bring the Ice Flyers up 0-2, but the lead was cut in half minutes later by Geoff Crisfield. Crisfield's goal was his first of the season, assisted by Jacob Barber and Garrett Johnston. The goal came on a power play opportunity for the Bulls.
Mike Davis tied the game for Birmingham 3:27 into the third period. His goal was once again on the power play and assisted by Josh Harris. At 7:12 Caleb Apperson scored the game winning goal for the Bulls on assists from Jacob Barber and Loren Ulett. The Ice Flyers were unable to come back, falling 3-2.
NOTES:
Brett D'Andrea's first professional point came as an assist on Brian Bowen's first goal of the night.
Tonight's attendance was 7,229.
The Ice Flyers totaled 38 shots.
The Bulls totaled 29 shots.
Next Friday, October 26 the Ice Flyers will play the Huntsville Havoc at home for Hero and Princess Night. Puck drop is at 7:35 p.m. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite hero or princess for the night! There will be a parade on ice for all of those in costume.
The next day Saturday, October 27 they will travel to Macon to play the Mayhem at 6:30 p.m.
