Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

The Ice Flyers once again headed to Lafayette to battle the IceGators, just the same as last week. But a week ago, the Ice Flyers took the victory in a shoot out, 5-4. Tonight, it took 3 unanswered goals by Pensacola to beat Louisiana 3-2 in regulation time.

Louisiana would open the scoring 5:04 into the first with a goal from Brayden Metz as they were finally able to bury the loose puck in front of Ice Flyers goalie Steve Christie. Tobias Carlsson and Jason Hill drew assists on the Louisiana opener. The first would end with Louisiana maintaining the 1 goal lead. Both teams would fire 8 shots on goal in the first frame.

Only a couple minutes into the second, the IceGators would go up two on a tally by August Aiken, with Kevin Beauregard and Shawn McNeil recording assists. Near the half way mark of the middle period, Pensacola would get on the scoreboard when Ryan Salvis scored his first as an Ice Flyer and 4th this season. Andrew Harrison and Dan Buccella added helpers on Salvis' goal.

Just 44 seconds later, IceGators' goalie BJ O'Brien thought the play was being whistled down on a delayed penalty but it was not. Mike Carter, with help from Ryan Corry and Jason Dolgy, took advantage of O'Brien's misjudgment and brought the Ice Flyers even with Louisiana at 2. The Ice Flyers would shoot another 8 shots on O'Brien, while the IceGators only had 5 on Steve Christie in net for the Ice Flyers.

The two teams would battle for the victory in the third period. The game remained tied at 2 up until 14:05 into the last period. Matthew Robertson of the Ice Flyers would put his team up by 1 going into the final minutes of the game. The game's pace would pick up as the Ice Flyers worked to keep the lead and the IceGators were desperate to tie it up and force overtime. However, Christie and his teammates in front of him hung in there tough and preserved the one goal lead and came away with their 3rd consecutive win.

Louisiana fired 16 shots at Christie in the third, bringing the game total to 34, while Pensacola shot 31 times at O'Brien in net for the IceGators. Christie was named the first star of the game, and Louisiana's Beauregard and August were named second and third, respectively.

The IceGators travel to meet the Mississippi RiverKings tomorrow night, which will conclude their weekend. The Ice Flyers return home Friday looking to bring their win streak to 4 and their home game winning streak to 5, as they face Columbus at 7:05 PM.

It is Giveaway Night at The Hangar in Pensacola where all fans in attendance will have a chance to win an Ultimate Fan Experience Package, Date Night Packages, trips To Biloxi, Ice Flyer jerseys and gift certificates from The Fish House and Mesquite Charlie's. Fans will also be able to double their chances at Chuck-A-Puck with a "2 for 1" deal while puck supplies last.
