Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS. (December 12, 2014) - A game with superior goaltending on both had to be settled in overtime and it was Devin Mantha's game-winning goal that gave the RiverKings the 2-1 victory over the Ice Flyers on Friday night in front of the 1,766 in attendance at the Landers Center.
After two scoreless periods, it wasn't until late in the third period that Corey Banfield scored the first goal of the game at the 16:20 mark with an assist to Daniel Sova. However, Sova's tripping penalty with 2:10 left in regulation gave the RiverKings a chance to even the score. With Peter DiSalvo pulled from the net, the 6-4 attack proved successful as Mike Hayward tied the game at 1-1 and sent the game to overtime.
It was only 1:28 into OT that Mississippi's Devin Mantha ended the game with his game-winning goal from Bryon Paulazzo to end the game with a final score of 2-1.
Though defeated, Max Strang had a very strong night in net as he turned away 48 of 50 shots faced by the RiverKings. On the other end, DiSalvo denied 23 of 24 shots.
The Ice Flyers now hold a record of 11-2-4 moving up to 26 points and are 4 points ahead of Knoxville and Peoria in the standings. Strang continues to remain undefeated in regulation in his 13 games played with 10 wins and 3 OT losses.
