Peoria Rivermen News Release

PEORIA - Tyler Amburgey scored two goals to lead the Peoria Rivermen to a 3-2 victory over the Knoxville Ice Bears on Friday night at Carver Arena.

The Rivermen scored first when Dan Bremner converted a breakaway on a feed from Alec Hagaman just 4:58 into the game. The Rivs connected on a power play goal with 5:58 remaining in the opening period when Tyler Amburgey hit home a rebound top shelf from the slot with assists given to Alex Hudson and Ben Warda for a 2-0 advantage at the first intermission.

Amburgey made it 3-0 just 1:12 into the second period by scoring on a five-hole wrister from the right circle on a feed from Hagaman also assisted by Bremner, which ended the night for Ice Bears goalie Bryan Hince. The Ice Bears finally tallied with 32.1 seconds remaining before the second intermission when David Segal redirected a Jason Price drive from the high slot to cut the Rivermen lead to 3-1.

Knoxville cut the deficit to 3-2 exactly one minute into the third period when a rebound hopped out of the reach of Rivermen goalie Kyle Rank and toward Ice Bear Peter Neal, who pounded the disc home from the slot, but Peoria held off the guests for the final 19 minutes for the win.

Rank turned aside 24 shots for the win while Hince made 13 saves in the loss. The Rivermen converted one of their two man-advantages while the Ice Bears were 0-for-3 on their power plays.

The Rivermen improve to 10-5-2 and move into a second-place tie with the Ice Bears (11-5-0). All five of the Knoxville losses have come at the hands of the Rivermen, who lead the season series 5-1-0.

Before the contest, the Rivermen placed captain and defenseman Cole Ruwe on the 30-day injured list, signed goalie Alex Scola to fill the roster spot created when Eric Levine was called up to the ECHL's Indy Fuel, and received defenseman Tyler Amburgey back from his call-up with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.

The Rivermen and Ice Bears rematch at Carver Arena at 7:05 p.m. Saturday for the Rivermen Christmas Celebration. The Rivermen will wear special Ugly Christmas Sweater jerseys to be auctioned after the game and invite fans to participate in an Ugly Christmas Sweater contest. Fans are also asked to bring a gently used coat for the Salvation Army Coats for Kids drive and a new unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.
