
Ice Flyers Announce 2011-2012 Schedule and Theme Nights

Friday, October 21st marks the day the Pensacola Ice Flyers begin the hunt for the franchise's first President's Cup. To commence the season that they have declared the Year of The Wingman, the Ice Flyers travel to Columbus to face off against the Cottonmouths for the season opener. The team's home opener will take place the following Saturday, October 29th when the Augusta RiverHawks arrive at The Hangar (Pensacola Civic Center) and it's "Pink in the Rink Night" for breast cancer awareness with your Ice Flyers' wearing specialty pink jersey's.
Throughout the 2011-2012 regular season, the team will once again play 28 home games and 28 away games. The home games consist of 22 weekend games (11 on Friday, 10 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday), 4 on Tuesday and 2 on Thursday. The Battle for I-10 is set to heat up this season, as the Ice Flyers will face the Mississippi Surge 5 times in Pensacola and 5 times in Biloxi, MS and the Louisiana IceGators 5 times in Pensacola and 6 times in Lafayette, LA. The Ice Flyers will also play against the Augusta RiverHawks (3 Home, 2 Away), Columbus Cottonmouths (4 home, 4 away), Fayetteville FireAntz (2 Home, 2 Away), Huntsville Havoc (2 Home, 5 Away), Knoxville Ice Bears (3 Home, 1 Away)and the Mississippi RiverKings (4 Home, 3 Away) who are the newest members of the SPHL and play out of Southaven, MS.
The Ice Flyers will once again hold numerous special theme nights during the season, with specialty jersey's being worn on several occasions from October 29th Pink Jersey's, January 21st USA Jersey's for Military Night, February 11th Mardi Gras Jersey's for Mardi Gras Parade on Ice Night, February 25th Race Jersey's for Weiner Dog Races and also on every Friday Night home game the Ice Flyers' will be wearing one of a kind Friday Night Jersey's. Other nights include Make a Wish Night on November 5th, Wounded Warriors Night with the Fishin Chixs on Friday November 11th, Mascot Night on November 26th, Relay for Life Night with Santa Rosa Medical Center on January 7th, Teddy Bear Toss with Sacred Heart Health Systems & Girl Scout Night on January 27th, Air Force Appreciation Night with Navy Federal Credit Union on March 9th, Boy Scout Night on February 12th which will be played as a matinee at 3:05pm and others. The last game of the season, the Ice Flyers will shave their heads in support of The St. Baldrick's Foundation sponsored by Nemours Children's Clinic that funds research to find a cure for childhood cancers.
